Portrait of Avram lancu (1824-1872), Romanian historical personality, as main element; right of the portrait, placed vertically, his name and years of birth and death; on the upper part, "BNR" logo, face value in figures and letters "5000 cinci mii lei" on two rows; in the middle, two columns of geometric decorative elements, the emblem of 1848 Revolution (Dacia Felix) and a church of Maramures - Transylvania; left to the Dacia Felix emblem, authorized signatures of the Governor and of the Chief Cashier, placed vertically; on the lower part, left, face value within a medallion and right, face value is printed three times in letters "CINCI MII LEI" and once in figures "5000"; left, vertical, name of the issuing bank "BANCA NATIONALA A ROMANIEI"; series and numbers of the banknote in letters and figures are printed in black ink as follows: the series horizontally up left and numbers down in the middle.

On the upper side, left, face value in figures and letters "5000 CINCI MII LEI"; up right, "BNR" logo; church in Densus - Transylvania, gate of old fortified town of Alba lulia (Karlsburg/Gyulafehérvár; until 1711 Weißenburg) and old Dacian flag, as main elements; in the middle, two columns of geometric decorative elements and the first seal Mihai Viteazul used after the Union of 1600; right of the two columns, placed vertically, the text "FALSIFICAREA ACESTOR BILETE SE PEDEPSESTE CONFORM LEGILOR" (forgery is punished according to the law) and date of issue "MARTIE 1992"; down, horizontally, face value in figures, three times in letters "CINCI MII LEI" and once in figures "5000" within a medallion; the name of the issuing bank "BANCA NATIONALA A ROMANIEI" is placed vertically on the right.
