The Central Bank of Solomon Islands is thrilled to announce the release of our new $10 commemorative banknote, dedicated to commemorating the upcoming 17th Pacific Games scheduled to be held in Honiara from November 19th to December 2nd, 2023.

The official launch of this significant banknote took place on Friday 27th October at the CBSI, Board Room, graced by the presence of distinguished guests, heads of financial institutions, board directors, and our other invited guests including revered athletes.

During the launch, the Minister for Finance & Treasury, Mr. Harry Kuma declared that the new $10 commemorative banknote is now legal tender currency in Solomon Islands. He highlighted that the new $10 banknote not only marks the historic moment of the Solomon Islands hosting the 17th Pacific Games for the first time but also symbolizes the celebration and unity surrounding the achievements of our exceptional athletes.

Key Features of the New Banknote:
The $10 commemorative banknote retains the same dimensions, reddish color, and most features of the current $10 paper note, with notable enhancements in terms of security and design specifications.

Design and Production: The new $10 banknote has been produced using Safeguard polymer by De La Rue, a reputable currency and security printing company in the UK. This choice of material is known for its durability and security features which are difficult to counterfeit.

Purpose: This commemorative banknote is designed to mark the XVII Games 2023, a significant event for the Solomon Islands. The new banknote once officially launched, will both serve as a circulation and a collectors’ banknote as a special token of celebration and remembrance for this sporting occasion of the PG 2023.

Official Launch: The new banknote will be officially launched ahead of the XVII Pacific Games 2023. A tentative launch date is planned for 27 October 2023. Once unveiled, it will then be widely circulated for use throughout the Solomon Islands as a $10 denomination.
